Last week I was very kindly gifted a box of 6 cupcakes to try from Sugar & Spice. They are a local company that provide artisan sweets and treats and also offer home delivery.
The cupcakes arrived on Valentine’s Day which was perfect timing. First of all they look amazing! I wasn’t expecting the icing heart on top and this was such a lovely extra touch. The buttercream is perfectly piped and the cupcakes are a great size.
They taste delicious and both me and my husband were really pleased with them. We picked 2 x vanilla, 2 x red velvet, 1 carrot cake (my husbands choice) and 1 x chocolate (my choice). The vanilla was my favourite as it was so moist and spongy. Some cakes can be very dry, but this one was so good! It also had a great icing to cupcake ratio, which for me is the be all and end all of a cake – too much cake and it’s too dry, too much icing and it’s too sweet. These were just right!
The red velvet and chocolate ones were also really tasty and I was very impressed. They weren’t too heavy or too sweet, just a perfect mix of deliciousness! They would be amazing as gifts or would be great to buy in bulk for parties or get togethers. Sugar and Spice can also do birthday and celebration cakes – just message them for a consultation. I bet they would be amazing!
6 cupcakes cost around £15, which is a bargain for homemade cakes that taste this good. I like to make cakes myself sometimes but when you can buy them locally, you save so much time and effort and they still have that homemade freshness. They offer flavours such as vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, carrot cake and lemon, so there are plenty of options to choose from. They also offer a selection of vegan and gluten free cakes too, which is so great as it means a wide range of people can now order cupcakes to be delivered. If cupcakes aren’t your thing you can always choose to order some cookies or brownies instead. They have a big selection of different flavours for those too.
You should definitely look into Sugar & Spice for your cake and cookie needs. In fact I think they would make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day! If you fancy trying them out then they will be at the Coventry Farmer’s Market in Broadgate tomorrow from 9am – 3pm, so go along and have a chat.
