The tale as old as time is back and I was lucky enough to be invited to one of the performances. The enchanting story of Beauty and the Beast is being performed at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry until Saturday 8th January, bringing magic and lots of mayhem back after the long break without live pantomime.
If you don’t know the story of Beauty and the Beast, what rock have you been living under!
Prince is punished for his selfish and unforgiving personality.
He is left to wallow in self pity for many years as a beast.
He then kidnaps a woman after making a deal with her father.
He learns to love from his captive and they live happily ever after.
Although the story’s plot is rather problematic looking at it with adult eyes, the amazing cast filled the show with comedy, feel-good cheer and adventure. The comedy dynamic between Iain Lauchlan and Craig Hollingsworth kept the show light and fun as Dame Dolly Mixture and Silly Billy. The costumes were magical and I am never disappointed with the Dame’s fantastic fashion choices brightening any scene she is in.
Special mentions to Ryan and Ryan 2 who participated getting photographic evidence of crimes, you were very important to the story.
